Best Time to Visit Belize: Weather, Seasons & Festivals
Belize is often described as the Caribbean’s best-kept secret—a place where lush jungles meet white-sand beaches, and life moves to the rhythm of the waves. But even paradise has seasons, and knowing when is the best time to visit Belize can make your trip even more memorable.
The truth? Belize is a year-round destination. But depending on your preferences—whether you want sunshine-filled beach days, budget-friendly travel deals, or lively festivals—some months might suit you better than others. Let’s break it down.
Peak Tourist Season (December to April)
This is Belize’s dry season, and it’s also when most travelers flock here. With cooler breezes, sunny skies, and almost no rain, it’s the perfect time for snorkeling, jungle adventures, and escaping harsh winters up north.
Weather: Pleasantly warm days, cooler evenings, and steady sunshine.
Best for: Families, couples, and first-time visitors looking for perfect weather.
Downside: Expect higher prices and larger crowds.
Off-Season (May to November)
Belize’s rainy season offers a different charm. While rain showers are common, they’re usually short-lived and followed by sunshine. Travelers willing to embrace this season are rewarded with:
Lower prices: Hotels and tours often discount by 30–50%.
Fewer crowds: Quieter beaches and more intimate experiences.
Lush scenery: Rain brings the jungles to life with vibrant greenery.
⚠️ Note: Hurricane season runs from June to November. While storms aren’t guaranteed, travel insurance is recommended.
Dry Season vs. Rainy Season: What’s the Difference?
Dry Season (Dec–Apr):Expect cooler winds in winter and hotter, sunnier days in spring. Activities like diving, hiking, and island hopping are at their best.
Rainy Season (May–Nov):Afternoon showers or quick tropical downpours are common, especially in September and October. If you don’t mind occasional rain, it’s still a wonderful (and cheaper) time to go.
Dry Season
The rainy season in Belize is from December to April, and it's more or less the nation's winter minus the snow and bitter cold of the north. The temperature drops slightly during the months of December, January, and February, resulting in cooler windy days with lots of sunshine. In the spring, days are generally warmer, and there are almost no clouds. The wonderful weather enables for a wide range of interesting activities such as surfing and jungle trips.
Wet Season
The rainy season in Belize runs parallel to the tourist season, which is from May to November, although it's usually most wet in September and October. When you visit Belize during this period, your sunny days may unexpectedly become wet days. However, there is a tropical storm in the tropics, and rain showers are generally only one or two hours long. Also, keep in mind that Belize's hurricane season runs from June through November, when potential hurricanes may render your holiday itinerary unusable; therefore we recommend you purchase travel insurance!
